JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly canceled an official visit to Germany to celebrate 50 years of diplomatic ties over the security situation in Israel.
The summit was scheduled for Thursday in Berlin.
Earlier this week, Netanyahu had shortened the visit from 36 hours over Wednesday and Thursday to just a few hours on Thursday. A new date has not been set for the visit.
Several Israeli government ministers were scheduled to travel to Germany with Netanyahu.
Sources in the German government told the Reuters news agency about the cancellation on Wednesday, with Israeli officials confirming it to local news outlets.
Four Israelis have been killed in the last five days in Israel, and more have fallen victim to stabbing and rock attacks by Palestinian assailants. At least two Palestinian assailants have also been killed, as well as two Palestinian teens.
