(JTA) — Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz will speak at a Washington, D.C., rally against the Iran nuclear deal sponsored by a pro-Israel group.
Trump, a billionaire businessman, and Cruz, a Texas U.S. senator, will appear at the Sept. 9 rally organized by the Zionist Organization of America, the group announced Thursday.
The deal, which lifts sanctions on Iran in exchange for it curbing its nuclear program, was finalized last month between Iran and six world powers, including the United States. Congress will vote on the deal in September, and President Barack Obama has promised to veto any rejection.
The Israeli government, numerous American Jewish organizations, including the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, and hundreds of Jewish spiritual leaders oppose the deal. However, hundreds of rabbis and several prominent Jews, including some Democratic congressmen, have come out in support of it.
