(JTA) — The professional association of Reconstructionist rabbis has hired Rabbi Elyse Wechterman as its executive director.
Wechterman, who replaces the interim executive director, Rabbi Danielle Leshaw, will begin at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association in September, the group announced in a news release Thursday.
A 2000 graduate of the movement’s rabbinical seminary, Wechterman served as spiritual leader of Congregation Agudas Achim in Attleboro, Massachusetts from 2001 to 2014.
The Wyncote, Pennsylvania-based association has approximately 350 members. The fourth-largest stream of American Judaism, the Reconstructionist movement teaches that Judaism is the continuously evolving civilization of the Jewish people, encompassing culture, art, music, food and everything else that makes up a civilization.
