Re: “When Magical Thinking On Israel Meets Reality” (Dec. 12):
Gary Rosenblatt, like many other commentators and experts, argues that abandoning the goal of a “two-state” solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict in favor of a “one-state” project will cause Israel to cease to be either a democratic or a Jewish state. That is not what would happen.
A “Greater Israel,” including the Palestinian people on the West Bank and perhaps Gaza, would be neither Jewish nor democratic. Ruling over a disenfranchised and discriminated against majority (or even a minority) goes against the most basic Jewish values and the lessons of our history. If they keep pressing for a “one-State” solution, Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu will accomplish what Arab states and Islamic terrorists could never do — destroy the Israel we love and the very state itself.
