RIO DE JANEIRO (JTA) – An Israeli national was shot and killed in Medellin, Colombia’s second largest city.
Shay Azran, 37, was riding a motorcycle Wednesday night when he was shot 10 times at close range by an unidentified attacker in the Simon Bolivar neighborhood, the local news portal Minuto 30 reported. He died instantly.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Other reports had said Azran was shopping in a supermarket when he was killed.
Azran, who worked as a realtor and was married to a Colombian woman, had been living in the South American country for five years and had just renewed his permit for another five-year period, Medellin’s secretary of security, Gustavo Villegas, told the local media.
Last month, an Israeli tourist was killed in a traffic accident on the Colombian coral island of San Andreas in the Caribbean. Ohad Menshahoff, 23, of Ashkelon, was riding a rented motorcycle with friends when they were struck and killed by a car traveling at high speed on the dangerous San Luis Highway.
