This afternoon, Rabbi Marc Schneier, founder of The Hampton Synagogue, announced that he will be stepping down after the summer, with a new rabbi starting Jan. 1. Below is his letter to his congregation:

Dear Friends,
What a remarkable journey! Over 26 years, we have transformed a dream into a reality. Today, The Hampton Synagogue is renowned as an oasis for Jewish life, Jewish spirituality and Jewish culture, not only on the East End of Long Island but throughout the Jewish World. Since 1990, we have rendered maximum service, maximum inspiration and maximum leadership. The upcoming 2016 season will further demonstrate this recognition. In addition to our unparalleled program of authors, films, concerts, lectures, celebrated guests and special events, the following highlights are scheduled:
Thanks to a most generous legacy gift from Honorary President Moish and Judy Tuchman, the groundbreaking for our beautiful Mikvah will take place Labor Day Weekend. Now, with the establishment of the Eruv for Greater Westhampton Beach, Westhampton, and Quogue, the Mikvahcompletes the building of our Kehilla.
We are blessed to count a minyan (quorum) of distinguished rabbis from all streams of Judaism in our congregational family. This summer, with the participation of these rabbis, we inaugurate The Hampton Synagogue Kollel, reflecting the inclusivity and diversity of our community.
In the words of the Psalmist, G-d has granted me a very special request, "that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life."
In this spirit, it is not easy for me after all we have built together to share the following with you.
With heartfelt emotion and enormous pride in our remarkable achievements, I have made a deeply personal decision and have informed the Trustees that this summer will be my final season as your congregational rabbi. I will continue to be a part of our community, as you all have a very special place in my heart.
There will be a new spiritual leader of our synagogue effective January 1, 2017. Nationally acclaimed rabbinic candidates will spend several Shabbatot with us in July and August so that together we will choose my successor and determine the future of our community.
Since 1990, we have made the ordinary, extraordinary; building a singular community, unique to the Jewish world. Through the years, we have broadened our horizons, expanded our knowledge, enlarged our interests, and enriched our spirits.
I look forward to spending the upcoming season with you, beginning Mother's Day Sabbath, May 7, and celebrating the vitality and the vibrancy that is The Hampton Synagogue.
