(JTA) — Israeli troops shot and killed a Palestinian man they said attempted to stab them at a checkpoint near the West Bank settlement of Beit El.
The incident Friday afternoon followed the near-fatal stabbing late Thursday of an Israeli security guard near Jerusalem.
The security guard, who was critically injured after being stabbed multiple times in Maaleh Adumim, a settlement near Jerusalem, was allegedly assaulted by a Palestinian working at the shopping mall where the victim works. He reportedly fled the scene of the attack.
The victim, 47, suffered a major loss of blood in the attack late Thursday night at a shopping mall in Maaleh Adumim, Army Radio reported.
The suspected perpetrator fled the scene and security forces are searching for him in the area, the report said. Maaleh Adumim Mayor Benny Kashriel told Army Radio the assailant worked at the shopping mall where the victim worked and was thus able to enter it armed.
