JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel Police officers shot and killed an Arab man in the Old City of Jerusalem after he attempted to stab a policeman.
Police identified the attacker as an 18-year-old from eastern Jerusalem. He died at the scene.
The officer was wearing a flak jacket and was unharmed.
According to police, officers asked the man to remove his hands from his pockets as he approached the Lions’ Gate. Police said the man was acting suspiciously as he approached the site of two previous stabbing attacks, including one in which two men were killed.
After he was asked to take his hands out of his pockets, the assailant removed a knife and tried to stab a police officer. Other officers then shot the man.
