The personal, vitriolic attacks on Representative Jerrold Nadler by his fellow Jews for supporting the Iran nuclear deal (“Nadler’s Iran Vote Unleashes Vitriol,” August 28) and on Senator Chuck Schumer for opposing the accord are disgraceful. And that the United States Ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro is receiving death threats from Israelis for advocating on behalf of the deal is at least as contemptible.
These attacks and threats do enormous damage to the Jewish community and to pro-Israel advocacy, and they must cease, for soon this damage will be irreparable. They must be publicly and vigorously denounced by every Jewish leader and organization, whether for or against the deal.
One can support the agreement, as I do, or oppose it, and still be pro-Israel and a loyal American. People on both sides of the debate need to respect the decisions others make even if we don’t agree with them.
