JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel Police ordered a Tel Aviv brothel closed more than a week after one of its employees hanged herself.
The brothel, which is located in a residential neighborhood, was ordered closed on Sunday. Police told the Israeli media that the closure order came after complaints by neighbors.
The woman, 36, hanged herself in an apartment located above the brothel, where she lived with several other workers. One of her colleagues said that the woman, identified as J, had been depressed in recent weeks and turned to drugs and alcohol. She had been working as a prostitute for 15 years, the Hebrew-language news website Walla reported.
While prostitution is legal in Israel, running a brothel is not.
