(JTA) — An Israeli man was shot dead in the West Bank in an attack that also left his friend wounded.
Danny Gonen, 25, from the Tel Aviv area, was shot at point-blank range on Friday near an Israeli settlement close to Ramallah, the Ynet news site reported. Gonen’s friend, also in his 20s and shot at point-blank range, sustained moderate injuries after being hit in his legs.
The two hikers were traveling on a road about a mile west of the West Bank settlement of Dolev when they were flagged down by a Palestinian man seemingly asking them for help, according to Ynet. The Israelis were in the area to bathe in a nearby spring.
Paramedics found Gonen unconscious, and he died shortly after being evacuated by helicopter to a hospital, Ynet reported.
The Israel Defense Forces and the Border Police searched the area for the shooter.
