JERUSALEM (JTA) — Three Israeli diplomats were recalled after posting tweets critical of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman.
The action came Wednesday, the Israeli news website NRG first reported. The diplomats are facing disciplinary hearings that could lead to their firing, according to Reuters.
Among those recalled is Israel’s ambassador to Switzerland, Yigal Caspi, who retweeted Israeli journalists’ tweets critical of Netanyahu’s planned March 3 speech on Iran before a joint session of the U.S. Congress. Another of the diplomats works at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem and another at Israel’s embassy in New Delhi, India.
Their Twitter accounts were suspended as of Thursday.
Under Israel’s regulations, civil servants may not make their political views public.
