Happy Hanukkah from Hogwarts!
In a tweet yesterday afternoon that went viral, J.K. Rowling confirmed that there are in fact members of the tribe at the famous school for witchcraft and wizardry: in particular, Anthony Goldstein, Ravenclaw (those in the Ravenclaw house are known for their book smarts and acumen).
Just in case you don't recognize Anthony's name, Rowling clarified that he's not just any old wizard. He is one of the original forty students created in Harry's year. He was also part of Dumbledore’s Army and fought alongside his comrades at the Battle of Hogwarts.
But the conversation didn't stop there. After Jewish fans challenged Rowling about Goldstein being the only Jew at Hogwarts, she clarified that he is indeed not alone.
Rowling went on to explain that all religions are welcome at Hogwarts–except for Wiccans. Apparently, the magical competition would be too much.
So, here's to a happy Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanzaa at Hogwarts! Kosher food sold separately.
