WASHINGTON (JTA) – The John Hagee Ministries raised more than $2.8 million at its “Night to Honor Israel.”

Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel, or CUFI, hosted the 33rd annual event Sunday night in San Antonio, Texas.

A total of $80 million has been raised to date at the salute evenings. The money raised this year will be distributed to some 30 Israeli and Jewish charities.

Speakers expressed concerns that the United States and other world powers were wavering in their negotiations with Iran over curbing its nuclear weapons program.

“These are the people who openly state they intend to destroy Israel and America,” Hagee said of Iran’s leaders. “Bowing to Iran’s demands will not bring peace to Israel and it will not bring peace to the world.”

Among the other speakers were Israel’s ambassador to the United States, Ron Dermer; radio host Dennis Prager; and the consul general of Israel for the Southwest, Meir Shlomo.

Rabbi Pynchas Brener, the Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Caracas, Venezuela, gave the closing benediction.
