One lesson stands out after reading “Chasing the Diplomatic Horizon” by Joshua Mitnick (Sept 5). The situation is not hopeful but there is still a possibility to revive the peace process and come to a permanent, stable resolution between Israel and Palestine.
The Gaza wars have taught us that there is no military solution to the threats to Israel’s security. Only a political solution can address the root causes of the larger conflict, and insure Israel’s security. The pieces are still in place to make this happen but only committed bold leadership and active involvement of the United States and other international players will lead to a permanent resolution of the conflict. Such an agreement will make it easier for Israel to enter into regional and international coalitions necessary to ensure her security at a time when dangers larger than Hamas are knocking at the door to the East.
