(JTA) — Germany dedicated a memorial in Berlin to the more than 200,000 people with physical and mental disabilities who were murdered by the Nazis.
The 79-foot blue glass wall memorial was dedicated Tuesday outside the Berlin Philharmonic. It is located near several other Holocaust memorials and on the site of the building from which the murder of patients at hospitals and psychiatric institutions was coordinated, The Associated Press reported.
In what the Nazis described as euthanasia, more than 70,000 such patients were gassed to death, while others were killed by injection and starvation.
Few of the people involved in executing the program were punished after World War II. The memorial includes audio and video information on the program and its victims.
