JERUSALEM (JTA) — A blast at a hospital in Gaza City left at least three dead, while seven more were killed in an explosion at a nearby park.
The outpatient clinic of the Shifa Hospital was hit by a drone strike, the Palestinian Maan news agency reported Monday afternoon. The dead from the two attacks were mostly children.
The Israel Defense Forces said that an initial investigation found that Israel had not been operating in the area at the time and did not fire at the hospital. The army said that Islamic Jihad had caused the deadly blasts.
Also on Monday afternoon, at least 10 Israelis were injured in a mortar attack from Gaza on the Eshkol region, located along the border with Gaza. Four are reported in critical condition.They were taken to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba.
Maan reported that as of Monday evening at least 1,055 Palestinians have died in Israel’s Gaza operation, with more than 6,200 injured. At least 43 Israeli soldiers and three Israeli civilians have been killed in the conflict.
