Misleading Ramapo Headline

The headline on the April 11 story about the East Ramapo public school district, “It’s Now Orthodox vs. Orthodox In Ramapo,” is stretching the truth. In contrast to the membership and Orthodox electorate of the school district, how many of them are affiliated with Uri L’Tzedek?

The organization’s founder, Rabbi Ari Hart, is certainly Orthodox, and his work in promoting ethics is admirable, but his position as director of admissions at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah will earn him very little credibility among the Orthodox communities in this school district.

If the situation truly was “Orthodox vs. Orthodox,” there would be Orthodox voices from within Monsey and Spring Valley speaking up on the apparent chillul Hashem [desecration of God’s name] that the school board has caused by withholding funds from public schools and favoring the sale of school facilities towards Orthodox entities.
