(JTA) — Monaco royal Charlotte Casiraghi and the French-Jewish comedian Gad Elmaleh had a son.
The baby, Raphael, was born Tuesday at Princess Grace Hospital Center in Monaco, the AFP news agency reported. It’s the first child for the couple, who added humorously in a statement from the palace announcing the birth, “The grandmothers are doing well.”
Casiraghi, the daughter of Princess Caroline, is not a princess but is a celebrity in France, where media often report about the Monaco royal family.
Elmaleh, a French Jew of Moroccan ancestry, is one of France’s best-known actors. His stand-up shows feature many references to his Jewish family, including their habit of splurging on bar mitzvahs and triggering guilt in sons and daughters for not visiting or calling often enough.
Elmaleh has a 13-year-old son from a previous marriage.
