Five years ago, Jewish groups — including Jewish Democrats — gave Barack Obama a hard time for posing in a church and calling himself a “committed Christian” in a bid to win the hearts and votes of South Carolina primary voters.
Today, voters in southern Brooklyn have the opportunity to vote for New York City Council candidate Chaim Deutsch, a Democrat whose campaign materials bill him as “the only frum candidate” and boast that he is “endorsed by all our rabbonim, roshei yeshiva.”
One hopes any such endorsements are delivered only in their givers’ personal capacities and not as the leaders of tax-exempt organizations.
