Larry Charles (“Borat,” “Bruno,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm”) has finally found an actor to star in his upcoming Sam Kinison biopic.
Josh Gad, from the Broadway hit “Book Of Mormon,” will portray the hard-partying, “pentecostal preacher-turned-manic standup comedian,” Deadline.com reports. Kinison was tragically killed in a car accident in 1992 at age 38 — ironically, after he’d sobered up.
Gad has a long history of playing a funny guy, dating back to his Jewish upbringing in Hollywood, Fla.
“I was like a Borscht Belt comedian trapped in the body of a 6-year-old. I was channeling Jackie Mason,” Gad told The Wall Street Journal. “I was in maybe third grade and the teacher said, ‘we have a problem. Your son walks into class every day, winks at us and says, ‘hiya, Toots.’ ”
Gad is playing Stephen Wozniak in the soon-to-be-released biopic “Jobs” starring Ashton Kutcher as Apple founder Steve Jobs.
