JERUSALEM (JTA) — The newly appointed Palestinian Authority prime minister, Rami Hamdallah, resigned after two weeks in his post.
Hamdallah offered his resignation to P.A. President Mahmoud Abbas on Thursday, Reuters reported, citing a P.A. source. It was not known if Abbas accepted the resignation.
Hamdallah, who was the president of an-Najah National University in Nablus before being sworn in on June 6, met last week with his Cabinet for the first time. He visited the al-Aksa Mosque in Jerusalem earlier this week.
He succeeded Salam Fayyad, who resigned in mid-April but remained to lead a caretaker government until a new government was formed.
