JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israel’s Supreme Court allowed the state to postpone the evacuation of the illegal West Bank outpost Amona.
The evacuation, scheduled for the end of this month, will now be July 15. The state must report to the court on the progress of the evacuation by June 13, according to Haaretz.
Amona, located in the Binyamin region near Ofra, has about 50 homes, , as well as public buildings, a school and a winery.
At least three other demolition orders have been issued since 1997.
A Supreme Court-ordered demolition of nine homes in Amona enforced by the government in February 2006 sparked a confrontation between settlers and police that turned violent.
A 2005 government-commissioned report by Israeli attorney Talia Sasson determined that the outpost was built on private Palestinian property.
