As you may have noticed, lately people are freaking out over basically every single thing Gwyneth Paltrow says or does. Her crime against humanity of the day: Hawking child-sized bikinis on her style blog Goop.
Livid moms across the nation, and even a child protection organization in the UK, are criticizing the actress for selling a Melissa Obedash for Goop bikini set. And not just because it costs $45. According to critics, skimpy swimsuits such as this one sexualize girls.
We’re not saying we don’t agree that bikinis for little ones fall into the range of the inappropriate, but we can’t help but sense a twinge of irrational anti-Gwyneth bias here. Have any of these haters been inside one of those Justice stores? The simple navy ruffled suit in question looks about as tsnius as an ankle-length denim skirt compared with 90 percent of the stuff in there.
Gwyneth seems to be taking it in stride, reports E! Online. Her spokesperson called the criticism “absurd,” and pointed out that “Two-piece bathing suits have been worn by young girls for decades.”
Well put — and not even one mention of Jay-Z in that entire statement. You’re winning us back over, Gwyn.
