(JTA) – The Reform movement will honor Rabbi Richard A. Block at an event marking the start of his tenure as president of the Central Conference on American Rabbis (CCAR).
Prominent leaders including Rabbi Richard Jacobs, president of the Union for Reform Judaism, and Rabbi David Ellenson, president of the Hebrew Union College, will attend the April 14 gathering held at Block’s home congregation, Temple Tifereth Israel in Cleveland..
“We are thrilled that Rabbi Block will be serving as the elected president,” said Rabbi Steven A. Fox, chief executive officer of the CCAR, in a statement. “Rick brings his tremendous personal experience as a rabbi, as well as a great wealth of institutional history and knowledge of the organization to his role. Rick continues to be a terrific asset to the organization and I look forward to working in partnership with him.”
Block had worked at CCAR in various capacities for eight years prior to his election as president to a tenure of two years.
He said in a statement that he hoped to continue the work of his predecessors and contribute to the work of his colleagues. .
