Raiz, the lead singer of dubstep European band Almamegretta, is making headlines this week for refusing to play on Friday night after converting to Judaism.
Almamegretta is set to play this Friday at the San Remo Song Festival, one of Italy’s most popular music events, but since Raiz, whose real name is Gennaro Della Volpe, is observant and he’s refusing to appear at the festival because he doesn’t want to perform on Friday night, Italy’s Diaro del Web reports.
The band is still unsure about what to do their performance, but are left with the choices of performing without him or using a pre-recorded video of the group.
Might we suggest Raiz befriend Alex Clare and get some tips on what to do about avoiding playing on Shabbat….
