Not only did he win five World Series championships and have the most career saves of all time, but Yankees pitcher Mariano Rivera is also Man of the Year, according to the New York Board of Rabbis.

The interdenominational group will give Rivera the official title at an upcoming ceremony and Rivera will goto Israel later in the year, Executive Vice President Joseph Potasnik told JTA. The group is still deciding on the date and location of the event.

“Mariano is a very religious person who is deeply committed to doing good, and is a strong supporter of Israel,” Potasnik said. “We will be doing a family trip after baseball season and the Jewish holidays later in the year.”

Mariano has been chosen for the title because of his philanthropic work and the extensive relief work he does for Panama through his church.
