NEW YORK (JTA) — The Russian-American Jewish community will honor the late New York City mayor Ed Koch at an upcoming event.
Limmud FSU, which holds educational confabs for Russian-speaking Jews around the world, said Friday it will hold a special ceremony commemorating the Jewish politician at its upcoming gathering in New Jersey in March.
“Ed Koch played a massive role for the Jewish community of New York. Outside of him being a great mayor for the city, he also played an influential role in bringing Russian Jewish immigrants to New York during the Russian waves of immigration,” said Sandra Cahn, co-founder of Limmud FSU.
Koch died early Feb. 1. He was 88.
