JERUSALEM (JTA) — The Shalem Center in Jerusalem will open a liberal arts bachelor’s degree program in the fall.
Israel’s Council for Higher Education on Tuesday approved recognition of Shalem, a conservative think tank, as an academic institution.
Shalem College will accept 50 students a year to pursue degrees in philosophy and Jewish thought, and Middle Eastern studies and Islam. It will be the first time that a classic liberal arts degree will be offered in Israel.
Shalem is closely linked to the Likud Party.
