JERUSALEM (JTA) — An eastern Jerusalem woman tried to stab an Israeli police officer with a knife, reportedly in retaliation for an anti-Muslim film.
The woman, 32, of Jerusalem’s Silwan neighborhood, tried to stab the officer in the parking lot of a police station in eastern Jerusalem. No one was injured in the incident, during which the officer overpowered the woman, who was taken in for questioning.
Israeli media reported that the woman was reacting to the anti-Muslim movie "Innocence of Muslims," which portrays the Islamic Prophet Muhammad as a fraud, and whose 14-minute trailer dubbed into Arabic and released on YouTube more than a week ago sparked ongoing riots that have left more than 20 people dead, including four American diplomats.
