(JTA) — Nate Freiman hit two home runs for the second straight game as Israel moved within one victory of advancing to the World Baseball Classic.
Freiman’s two homers and four runs batted in led Israel to a 4-2 victory over Spain on Friday in Jupiter, Fla., in the WBC’s qualifying round. Coupled with a victory over South Africa in its opener, Team Israel needed one more win to reach the WBC, which will be held in March.
Freiman, a standout first baseman for the San Diego Padres’ Class AA San Antonio Missions, had homered twice as well against South Africa in a 7-3 victory.
Israel and Spain were meeting again Sunday in the modified double-elimination format.
