On Feb. 23, 1942, Austrian intellectual Stefan Zweig and his wife committed suicide in Brazil after being exiled by the Nazis.

During an impromptu interview at the Center for Jewish History, veteran Brazilian journalist Alberto Dines — a biographer of Zweig (Portuguese) — notified The Archive Blog of the 70th anniversary of Zweig’s suicide, and explained Zweig’s JTA connection.
