$1,250,000 Lydda Airport Opened; Finest in Near East (DECEMBER 15, 1936)
LYDDA PALESTINE, Dec. 14 (JTA) – The largest and most modern airport in the entire Near East was formally opened here today by the British authorities.
The airport, covering several thousand dunams of land (a dunam is the equivalent of one-fourth of an acre), was constructed at a cost of approximately $1,250,000. It will be used both for military and commercial purposes.
Its Location is along the main route between Jerusalem and the all-Jewish city of Tel Aviv, to which it is nearest.
