The New York Times obituary on Irving Franklin, co-developer of the modern baseball glove, who was featured in a Eulogizer posting on Nov. 12, deserves mention here for a few choice tidbits, among them that 2011 MLB batting champion Miguel Cabrera, and 2011 home run leader Jose Batista wear Franklin gloves. And the Times had this choice item as its "kicker" (journalistic slang for a clever closing paragraph):
Irving Franklin was particularly pleased about his batting gloves because the name of his company was so easy to see when television cameras closed in on a hitter. His other official major league products, cups and supporters, were not.
