The Book of Moron, the Tony-winning musical written by Matt Stone and Trey Parker, creators of South Park, has been a mega Broadway hit since its debut earlier this year. It is almost impossible to get tickets (though I was able to go, ha!), and hundreds of people try their luck in the lottery every day.
However, all of those fans who don’t happen to be in New York or cannot go to watch the show on its national tour, which will start late next year, might have something to look forward to.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the two creators talked about the possibility of turning the show into a movie: “We want to do it some day,” says Stone, who identifies himself as an atheist Jew.“The great thing is, a lot of Broadway teams would have to go team up with a Hollywood producer and bring on a Hollywood director, but Trey’s a director and Scott’s a great producer. We’ve all made movies. So it’s kind of cool, it can stay in the same family.”
Stone and Parker tried their luck on the big screen a few times, with Orgazmo, which was their first movie about Mormons; Baseketball, a parody about professional sports; Team America: World Police, a political satire starring marionettes, and of course, South Park, Bigger Longer & Uncut in the late 90s.
That’s great news, people! The musical is hilarious! And it even has a Jewish reference! And it’s not offensive!
