I’m not sure how much I buy his claims of alcohol abuse. We never saw any photos of him stumbling out clubs drunk, ala Lindsay Lohan. Is the male child star equivalent of posing nearly naked on the cover of Maxim or FHM? Is claiming to have had a drinking problem Radcliffe’s way of showing the world he is ready for adult roles?

Yet despite claiming to have become very reliant on alcohol in order to enjoy life, Radcliffe then backtracks and says that he wasn’t a very good alcoholic. “I was always very unsuccessful at it,” he told Ann Curry while on TODAY.

His failed attempt at self-destruction is perhaps due to his Jewish lineage, as per the classic joke, which goes something like this: Why don’t Jews drink? Because its gets in the way of our suffering.

Sorry Daniel. I guess you’ll just have to choose a different vice next time.
