WASHINGTON (JTA) — Tamar Fogel, whose family was murdered by terrorists in their West Bank home, met with Jonathan Pollard in prison.

Fogel, 12, visited Pollard in the federal prison in Butner, N.C., shortly after his father’s death earlier this month, Ynet reported. She was accompanied by her aunt and grandfather.

According to Ynet, Pollard reached out to Fogel through his wife to express his condolences on the loss of her family in the March attack in the Itamar settlement.

The visit was arranged prior to the death of Morris Pollard and the international appeal for Pollard’s temporary release to attend the funeral. The appeal was denied.

"A very strong bond was created between my father and Jonathan," Fogel’s uncle, Yohai Ben Hishai, told Ynet, referring to Fogel’s grandfather. "My father told me that Jonathan tried to put on a brave face and inquire after our family’s well-being despite his obvious suffering over his own loss."

Pollard was a U.S. Navy civilian analyst when he was arrested in 1985 for spying on behalf of Israel. He is serving a life sentence.
