(JTA)—The U.N peacekeeping force in Lebanon wants to clearly mark the border between Israel and Lebanon after a deadly clash.
Maj. Gen. Alberto Asarta Cuevas of UNIFIL, the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, said Thursday he met with Israeli and Lebanese army officials to discuss the border, according to the Associated Press.
On Aug. 3, the Lebanese army fired Israeli troops attempting to prune a tree both countries claimed was in their territory. Israeli troops returned fire. The United Nations subsequently determined that the tree was in Israel. An Israeli officer, two Lebanese soldiers and a Lebanese journalist were killed.
Israel built a fence to designate the border between the two countries. It deviates slightly from the U.N.-approved line in places.
