Hollywood is going (or has gone — remember Daredevil?) to the second tier heroes in its bid to mine Comicbookdom to death for story lines.
Now it’s getting ready to roll out a Green Lantern treatment, and the Huffington Post is going gaga over love interest Blake Lively’s decolletage at San Diego’s ComicCon.
Me, I’m mid-century, mid-life, married, and, honestly, I can’t get bothered. What exercises me is, who play the Guardians of the Universe, stationed on planet Oa? These are the denizens who grant Green Lantern his power. ("In brightest day, In darkest night, no evil shall escape my sight, Let those who worship evil’s might Beware my power — Green Lantern’s light!")
Gil Kane, who created the silver age (late 1950s) incarnation of the Lantern, upon which then movie will be based, modeled the male Guardians on David Ben Gurion. Why, I’m, not sure — if anyone knows, please notify me.
In any case, I don’t see any likelies in the cast list.
My nomination? Steven Hill has the jawline and the chops, for sure. Wasn’t Adam Schiff a kind of Guardian?
