U.S. Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) finished in first place Sunday with 31 percent of in the Conservative Political Action Conference’s presidential preference straw poll. It was reportedly one of the strongest showings in the poll’s history. Mitt Romney finished second with 22 percent and Sarah Palin third with 7 percent.

The National Jewish Democratic Council responded to the results with a statement highlighting what it described as Paul’s "miserable" record on Israel.

UPDATE: I should add that the announcement of Paul’s victory was reportedly booed in the main hall. A Paul supporter offers up a theory as to why.
