The FORWARD Launches Israeli Edition with Haaretz
– Four-page Forward section to be included in Sunday Haaretz English Edition –
NEW YORK, January 13, 2010 – The FORWARD, America’s most influential Jewish weekly newspaper and website, is pleased to announce its partnership with the English edition of the Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz. Beginning January 24th, a special four-page edition of the FORWARD will be included in every Sunday copy of Haaretz English Edition.
“The FORWARD weekly edition for Haaretz readers will open a wider window to the Jewish world, and especially to the essential relationship between the US and Israel,” said Jane Eisner, editor of the FORWARD. “No one is better than the FORWARD at interpreting that relationship and telling the contemporary American Jewish story. And we are thrilled to be able to reach those readers through Haaretz, a newspaper whose standards of journalistic excellence we admire and share.”
The collaboration grows from a long-standing relationship between the FORWARD and Haaretz. After months of strategic planning, the two highly regarded papers are working together to bring the FORWARD’s award-winning journalism and insight into the American Jewish community to English speakers in Israel.
Aviva Bronstein, managing director of Haaretz English Edition, said: “We believe that the reportage this will add to our pages every Sunday will serve as a cultural bridge between readers in Israel and Jewish readers of the newspaper abroad and will of course help the English speaking community in Israel to stay informed about the hot and current issues in the American Jewish community."
"We know that our readers are hungry for more in-depth stories about Jewish culture and the Jewish world, and the FORWARD excels at this," said Charlotte Halle, editor of Haaretz English Edition. "To read about how the Madoff saga played out in New York or commentary on the Obama administration’s latest moves from leading American Jewish writers will be a huge plus for our readers. By bringing them these stories in print, we think our Sunday edition will become one of the highlights of the week.”
