TORONTO (JTA) — A municipal employee in Calgary is under investigation for allegedly running at least two anti-Jewish Web sites.
A "full investigation" of the unnamed 56-year-old foreman with the western Canadian city’s Parks and Recreation Department was launched Monday after the existence of at least two anti-Jewish blogs, both linked to the man, was revealed to city officials, the Calgary Herald reported.
"We just became aware of the issue, so we are doing our investigation to determine an appropriate response," city Solicitor Paul Tolley was quoted as saying. "We need to determine a few facts, and then we can respond to this."
The sites in question include a blog and a Facebook page. They contain links to conspiracy theories and writings condemning Jews as racist, power hungry and corrupt.
The Herald reported that it does not appear that the man actually writes the material, though anti-Semitic content apparently penned by the same man can be found on many other online comment forums.
In an e-mail to the paper, the man denied running the blog, jewwatchskullnboner.blogspot.com. As of Wednesday, the blog was inactive.
Officials say the Alberta city’s code of conduct for staff can include behavior and actions outside of work hours.
