NEW YORK (JTA) — The British government moved its official Chanukah reception to the prime minister’s residence in a bid to make amends with the country’s Jewish community.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown decided to relocate the gathering to 10 Downing St. from its Foreign Office venue as a gesture to the community, the Jewish Chronicle reported. The community attacked his Labor government last week for abstaining during a United Nations vote on a resolution supporting the Goldstone report.

A U.N.-commissioned committee led by Jewish South African judge Richard Goldstone found that Israel and Hamas committed war crimes and possible crimes against humanity during last winter’s Gaza war.
