WASHINGTON (JTA) — The faculty at a Jewish day school in suburban Philadelphia is threatening to strike.

Activities next week at the Jack M. Barrack Hebrew Academy in Bryn Mawr were canceled because of a contract impasse between teachers and the school, according to an e-mail from academy leaders to parents sent Nov. 12, the Jewish Exponent of Philadelphia reported.

Faculty members are threatening to begin their strike Monday.

After working on a one-year contract during previous school years, the teachers union is dissatisfied with the pay increase offered by the school. The academy’s administration says that to keep tuition increases at a reasonable level, it cannot afford larger raises for teachers.

The Exponent said it was not clear when negotiations between the school and teachers might restart.
