JERUSALEM (JTA) — Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat will run in the New York City Marathon.
Barkat, who announced his participation Tuesday as part of a fall tour of North America, will run to raise awareness of Jerusalem as the top destination site for tourists and pilgrims in the world, according to his office.
The mayor has run marathons in Berlin, Paris and Israel, and has raced jeeps throughout Europe and Africa. He is known for running the nearly five miles from his home to office several times a week.
