JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli airstrikes hit a rocket launcher in Gaza that was aimed and ready to be fired at Israel.
Monday’s strike, reported by the Israel Defense Forces, came after several Kassam rockets and mortar shells hit Israel Sunday night and Monday during Yom Kippur.
On Sunday night, two Kassam rockets were fired from Gaza into the Negev. On Monday, just hours before the airstrike, another rocket was fired at Israel. No injuries or damage were reported in the attacks.
On Monday morning, Palestinian gunmen opened fire on Israeli troops on patrol near the Gaza border. Shortly after, four mortar shells were fired from Gaza into Israel near the Kerem Shalom border crossing, Ha’aretz reported.
Approximately 55 rockets and mortar shells have been launched at Israel during the past three months, totaling more than 250 since the end of Operation Cast Lead in January and more than 750 this year, according to the IDF.
