JERUSALEM (JTA) — Iran test-fired new missiles as it began a series of war games on the eve of Yom Kippur.
Sunday’s military maneuvers by the Revolutionary Guard come as Iran and the West continue to disagree over Iran’s nuclear program, and just days after Iran announced that it has constructed a second uranium enrichment plant.
Iranian state television reported that Iran test-fired two short-range missiles.
The exercises are scheduled to last several days and to take place in several locations throughout the country.
Iran’s movement of troops leading into Yom Kippur is reminiscent of the Yom Kippur War of 1973, when Israel’s Arab neighbors launched an attack on the Jewish state during the most holy day on the Jewish calendar.
