NEW YORK (JTA) — Jewish Television Network CEO Jay Sanderson was named president of the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles.

Sanderson, 52, will succeed John Fishel, who announced in January that he was stepping down effective Dec. 31.

Sanderson has been at the helm of the Jewish Television Network since 1989. He has served as executive producer of the PBS series “The Jewish Americans” and the upcoming PBS documentary on modern genocide, “Worse Than War, according to the Los Angeles Jewish Journal.

“I’m extremely excited and feel deeply privileged,” Sanderson told the Jewish Journal. “I’m surprised. It’s such a big, important job, I wasn’t sure I was going to be the person that they chose, especially given the quality of the other candidates.”
