JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israelis security forces arrested a Hamas leader who Israel says was involved in a Passover eve suicide bombing in Netanya.
Mohammed Mastafa Mahmoud Harouish, 26, was arrested Monday night near Bethlehem along with one of his senior aides, an Israeli army spokesman announced. Harouish is the head of the Hamas military wing in Tulkarem.
Harouish has been wanted since 2004 for his involvement in Hamas terrorist activity, which was a foundation for the suicide bombing in Netanya in 2002 that killed 30 people. He has been involved in another thwarted suicide attack, and also recruited militants, formed terror cells and purchased weaponry, according to the IDF.
