SYDNEY, Australia (JTA) — A former teacher at a Jewish day school in Australia pleaded guilty to charges of child pornography.
Paul Benjamin, the one-time deputy principal of Jewish studies at the Emanuel School in Sydney, entered the plea Tuesday, according to a report in the Australian Jewish News. His sentencing hearing is scheduled for Sept. 18.
Benjamin was one of 22 people charged in January during a global bust of a child pornography ring. He also was charged with possessing a prohibited drug and a prohibited weapon without a permit. No pleas were entered this week on those charges.
Benjamin resigned from his longtime post at the Jewish school after his arrest late last year. He is not believed to have been involved in illegal activity at the school.
